Brush Fire Reported Off Honoapiʻilani Hwy

Maui Now has received reports of a brush fire starting off Honoapiʻilani Highway near mile marker 4. 

Ukumehame Brush Fire: Fire Under Control, Hwy OPEN

West Maui motorists are being advised that a brushfire on the mauka side of Honoapiilani Highway in Ukumehame may force the closure of the highway if the blaze is not contained within the next hour. Fire personnel say winds of up to 20 to 30 miles per hour are fanning fire, which was said to be near Ehehene Street.

UPDATE: Brush Fire near Windfarm in Māʻalaea Burns 80 Acres

Motorists traveling to or from Lahaina are advised of a temporary road closure on the Honoapiʻilani Highway between “Thousand Peaks” and Māʻalaea Harbor due to a brush fire near Mile 7 of the highway. The fire is located on the mauka side of the road and was advancing up the hill in the area of the Kaheawa windfarm at last report.

Brush Fire at Launiupoko Temporarily Interrupts Traffic

Officials say the fire was called under control by 1:56 p.m., and the highway was reopened at 2:32 p.m. Mainaga said the area involved was approximately 100 yards long by 20 feet wide. The cause, he said, is undetermined at this time.
