Gov. Green lowers flags in remembrance of the Pearl Harbor attack
Flags are being lowered from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, marking the 83rd commemoration of the Pearl Harbor attack, and the lives lost on Dec. 7, 1941. “The day serves as a poignant reminder of the courage and sacrifices made by the thousands of men and women whose bravery in the face of unimaginable adversity shaped the course of history,” said Gov. Green.
Flags lowered in honor of Auntie Twinkle Borge
Borge died on Aug. 5, 2024, at 54 years old. Borge was a prominent community member who envisioned and brought to fruition, the homeless village known as Pu‘uhonua O Wai‘anae. She lived there for 17 years and was known for her leadership and aloha.
Flags lowered in Hawaiʻi for Patriot Day
“Even though the Sept. 11 attacks happened 23 years ago, we continue to carry the memory of those we lost. It was a tragic event that will never be forgotten, yet it was also a time where we witnessed absolute heroism, compassion and resilience,” said Green. “My heartfelt condolences go out to the families who lost their loved ones on this day.”
Flags lowered to honor last USS Arizona survivor: Lou Conter, dies at 102
Gov. Josh Green, M.D., has ordered that flags be lowered to honor the last Pearl Harbor survivor of the USS Arizona, Lou Conter, who died on Monday, April 1, 2024, at age 102. Conter and many of his 335 shipmates who survived the attack, distinguished themselves by rescuing many of their brethren and continued to serve the Navy with dignity and honor. The Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor took the lives of 1,177 Arizona crewmembers.
