In Kahului, the average price is $5.63 per gallon, down two cents from last week and $1.19 higher than a year ago. AAA Hawaiʻi expects travel volumes to remain near record levels during the Independence Day holiday period, with most travelers choosing to take road trips.

The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.43, which is one cent lower than last week and 11 cents lower than this time last year.

The AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch reports that gas prices are experiencing a slight decline in most cities. The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.59, which is one cent less than last week and 18 cents lower than a year ago. The national average gas price is $3.15, which is four cents less than last week. 

“Gas prices are remaining steady, though there are slight fluctuations in some areas,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaiʻi general manager. In Kahului, the average price is $4.66, which is the same as last week and 17 cents lower than a year ago.

Hawaiʻi drivers got some relief at the pump in the last week as gas prices dropped to more than 40 cents lower than this time last year in most areas, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.

Hawaiian Electric is forecasting that residential bills for customers in Maui and Hawaiʻi counties will rise about 20% over the next several months, while O‘ahu customers will see an estimated 10% increase.
