Actress China McClain has apologized to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources after posting a video to her Instagram account, touching a sea turtle on Maui.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service and NOAA Fisheries have responded to a legal agreement with environmental groups by proposing to designate approximately 2,233 acres of nesting and basking beaches in the main Hawaiian Islands, with additional areas in the northwestern Hawaiian Islands, American Sāmoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

A juvenile green sea turtle was returned to the ocean on Wednesday after it was rescued late last year and nursed back to health over the past three months.

Maui Ocean Center, The Aquarium of Hawaiʻi is asking for the public’s help in naming the newest members of its Hawaiian green sea turtle ʻohana.

The sea turtles were hatched between August 7 and 12 at Sea Life Park. At just over two months of age, the pocket-sized hatchlings weigh between 63-77 grams.

The Maui Ocean Center will host an official booth at IUCN to feature its work in coral restoration, turtle conservation and education.

Primary ‘ea nesting beaches occur along the south Ka‘ū coast of Hawai‘i island, south Maui, and eastern Moloka‘i. Both species are federally protected.
