National Weather Service: Rainfall stayed below average in February

Without significant flooding in February, drier and more stable weather conditions kept rainfall below average for the month in many areas of the state, including Maui County, the National Weather Service reported.

Increase in showers for Maui and the Big Island; Maui Flood Advisory until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service has extended the Maui Flood Advisory until 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024. At 7:06 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over East Maui, with the heaviest rain falling along the southern slopes of Haleakalā. Rain was falling at a rate of 0.5 to 1 inches per hour.

Potential for Cyclone Formation Has Increased to 90%

A tropical cyclone will likely form later today or tonight as a system 1,300 miles east southeast of Hilo on Hawai‘i Island moves toward the west northwest at 15 to 20 mph.
