Gov. Green has 20 bills on his Intent-to-Veto list
The governor has until July 9 to issue final vetoes from the list, to sign them into law, or to allow them to become law without his signature.
Hawaiʻi Legislature passed 320 bills; Gov. Green intends to veto 19 of them
Gov. Josh Green, M.D., today informed legislative leaders and stakeholders of his intent to veto 19 bills passed during the 2025 regular session of the Hawai‘i State Legislature. Green has until July 9 to issue final vetoes. All other bills will become law by July 9.
Critical funding for West and South Maui secured in Senate Budget draft
More than $107 million in funding for infrastructure was included in the Senate version of the state budget which passed last week. Some key items included are: appropriations for the Lahaina Bypass North, a grade-separated crossing for Kūlanihākoʻi High School, critical repairs for Māla Ramp, and a new wastewater facility for Waikapū.
Full Senate passes draft budget; includes funds for Maui jail and UHMC health center
The bill includes the addition of 3 permanent positions and $98,500 in FY24 and $200,250 in FY25 for Maui College’s health center. House Bill 300, House Draft 1, Senate Draft 1 now moves back to the House for further consideration.

Budget bill allocates much less to the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority than requested
De Fries said the the limited budget is cause for “extreme concern.” He said that in addition to programs that the HTA supports in communities markets around the world, its funds are also used to support cultural events, festivals, and sporting events.
