28 Inmates from Hilo Transferred to O‘ahu to Alleviate Overcrowding
The Department of Public Safety transferred 28 inmates from the Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center in Hilo on Hawaʻi Island to the Hālawa Correctional Facility and Women’s Community Correctional Center on Oʻahu, to help alleviate overcrowding at the Big Island jail.
Disturbance at Hawai‘i Community Correctional Center Leads to Lockdown Friday Night
A lockdown was implemented at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center on Friday night after inmates in one housing module started a disturbance. The facility emergency response security team was given approval to use non-lethal means to gain compliance.
