The Alaska Air Group board of directors has announced four senior leadership appointments across Alaska Airlines and its regional subsidiary, Horizon Air.

Alaska Airlines received a single operating certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration to operate alongside Hawaiian Airlines as two separate brands. This significant milestone – a FAA regulatory requirement achieved just over a year after Alaska and Hawaiian combined – marks the successful integration of training, policies, procedures and manuals across both airlines.

Alaska Air Group is making leadership changes following the retirement of Chief Operating Officer Constance von Muehlen, who is leaving the role after nearly 15 years with the company.

Alaska Air Group today named Shelly Parker as head of Hawai‘i guest operations for Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. Parker has also been appointed as a member of the company’s Honolulu leadership team.

Alaska Airlines’ inflight water service is switching to Boxed Water and recyclable paper cups to eliminate an estimated 1.8 million pounds of single-use plastics a year, equivalent to the weight of 18 Boeing 737s.

Alaska Airlines will inaugurate nonstop service between Honolulu and Bellingham, Washington in five months.  The first-ever scheduled flight between the two destinations begins Jan. 7, 2011.
