HDOT has received concerns regarding the ‘Ῑao Stream (Wailuku River) Bridge and would like to reassure Central Maui residents that the bridge has been inspected and cleared. The crack on the bridge is related to the bridge deck joints and was recorded on the bridge’s 2024 inspection. Bridge deck joints allow for regular expansion of the deck as the bridge heats and cools.

The state Department of Transportation will implement a single lane closure on Waiehu Beach Road from Friday night March 27, to Monday morning March 30, as part of a bridge widening project at the ʻĪao Stream Bridge.

The funds are part of a larger $70 million release for capital improvement projects across Hawaii that are intended to help carry the state’s recovery into the new year.

The Department of Water Supply continues repairs on a leaking valve in Happy Valley. The work will result in impacts along North Market Street, where traffic will be reduced to a single lane of travel.

The proposed improvements are aimed at enhancing the safety of motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
