Maui’s Kaʻehu Bay restoration gets help from Jean-Michel Cousteau

Maui nonprofit KAʻEHU is getting the help of Jean-Michel Cousteau and the Ocean Futures Society to help fundraise for restoration of Kaʻehu Bay.

$10M in Federal Funds Dedicated to Native Hawaiian Education, Development

Nearly $10 million dollars from the federal government will support programs that promote Native Hawaiian education and enrichment. 

Ka‘ehu Wetland Acquisition Complete

The County of Maui completed the $996,000 purchase of 64 acres of undeveloped coastal wetlands at Ka‘ehu Bay in Paukukalo. Ka‘ehu is the last open space between Waiehu and Waihee and is used for cultural groups and practitioners. There is also an effort underway to eventually restore taro patches and fishponds in the area.

Council Gives Initial Approval to Purchase of Ka’ehu Wetlands

The $996,000 price tag garnered initial approval by all members, but also drew some reservations by members who say unresolved issues remain.

County Considers Ka’ehu Acquisition, Last Open Space in Paukukalo

The proposed acquisition of 63.7 acres of coastal wetlands in Paukukalo resurfaces again before the Council’s Budget and Finance Committee this week. The county is considering the acquisition of the property for an estimated $996,000.
