12 Maui Police Department sergeants promoted to rank of lieutenant
The Maui Police Department announced the promotion of 12 sergeants to the rank of lieutenant including: Jerry Barrera, Matthew Bigoss, Kyle Bishaw-Juario, Christina Bonacorsi, Jeffrey Calibuso, Nathaniel “Chinky” Hubbard, Erik Losvar, Kamuela Mawae, Jan Pontanilla, Gregg Rowe, Aaron Souza, and James Terry. All promotions are scheduled to take effect on Jan. 16, 2026.
Two Maui men injured in alleged assault in Māʻalaea
Two men suffered injuries in an alleged assault reported early Saturday morning in Māʻalaea, police said. The victims, a 24-year-old Kīhei man and a 62-year-old Lahaina man were allegedly assaulted by a group of three to four unknown males near Slip 22 at Māʻalaea Boat Harbor.
Maui police detective asks AG if he is liable for war crimes by enforcing American laws
Attorney General Anne Lopez has received a 10-page letter, with attachments, from Edward Halealoha Ayau who is the attorney representing Maui Police Detective Kamuela Lanakila Mawae. That letter addresses legal concerns regarding the status of Hawaiʻi as an occupied State and potential war crimes being committed by law enforcement officers, according to a news release from Ayau.
