Hawaiian Telcom employees conduct Kanahā cleanup

Hundreds of Hawaiian Telcom employees spent the day volunteering for various community service projects statewide on Friday as part of the company’s annual “Day in the Community.” Volunteers on Maui participated in a cleanup of Kanahā Beach Park in Kahului as part of the effort.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Hawai‘i announced a milestone in its lawsuit against Maui County aimed at the “houseless sweep” of the Pu‘uhonua o Kanahā encampment at Kanahā Beach Park in September 2021. 

County Video: ‘Āmala Place Cleanup was “Sympathetic to Care for Those in Need”

The County of Maui produced a video in an effort to reassure the public that actions taken during the ‘Āmala Place cleanup “were sympathetic to care for those in need.”

County officials say the temporary closure is needed to safeguard public safety during the area’s planned clean-up that will require heavy equipment to remove derelict vehicles and solid waste from the area.

Mālama Maui Nui will hold its “Holiday Gift to Maui Nui” cleanup this Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Kanahā Beach Park in Kahului.
