Panel discusses how ancestral knowledge can guide Lahaina rebuilding following 2023 wildfire

Hundreds gathered at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa for the 2024 Piʻo Summit: Hulihia: Fire and Rain, a free series of forums focused on leveraging ancestral ʻike (knowledge) to support long-term recovery efforts for communities affected by the Lahaina wildfires and the 2018 Kauaʻi floods.

Day 2: Native Hawaiian Convention

Today marks Day Two of the 22nd Annual Native Hawaiian Convention, taking place at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.  The four-day event was moved to Maui this year to uplift its voices and people following the Aug. 8 wildfires. 

UH to Unveil New Volume on Native Hawaiian Law

The 1,400-page volume entitled “Native Hawaiian Law: A Treatise” provides additional or new perspectives on legislative action, court cases and legal decision-making that have impacted the field over the past quarter century.

“We’re hopeful that with the return of stream flow to Nā Wai ʻEhā (The Four Waters) that this can be the latest in the ripple that will create a wave that carries forward for many generations yet to come,” said Kapua Sproat of Earthjustice.
