Kauaʻi Mayor Kawakami shares budget goals in wake of Maui wildfires
In Kauaʻi County’s efforts to reduce fire risk and fuel sources, Mayor Kawakami announced this year’s budget will include $2.7 million in heavy equipment for Kauaʻi road crews to help manage vegetation, and added $1.5 million to cover costs to clear brush and large debris from county properties. The Kaua‘i Fire Department will also acquire two water tenders and a brush fire-fighting apparatus to enhance fire response.
Arson reported at multiple Kauaʻi parks
Trees at Lydgate Beach Park, ‘Anini Beach Park and Anahola Beach Park were recently found burned. Police reports have been made.
FBI: Laser sightings documented near airports on Maui, Kauaʻi
Recent sightings of lasers in and around Kahului and Kapalua Airport were reported and documented in the past week. Pilots landing at the airports have experienced a green laser illuminating their aircraft while on approach to land. Neighborhoods with reported incidents include: Kahului, Kapalua, Kīhei, and Nākālele.

Pilot, 2 Passengers Identified in Kauaʻi Helicopter Crash
Kauaʻi police believe the pilot is 69-year-old Paul Metro of Wailua, and identified two of the six passengers as 47-year-old Amy Gannon and 13-year-old Jocelyn Gannon of Wisconsin.
Pladera Promoted to Rank of Lieutenant at Maui Police Department
