Governor Extends Disaster Relief Period for Damage Caused by Heavy Rains in March

Governor David Ige signed a third proclamation extending the emergency disaster relief period for the Counties of Maui and Kaua‘i, and the City and County of Honolulu, following heavy rains that caused flooding, landslides and fear of dam failure in March.

State of Emergency Declared as Heavy Rains Pummel Hawaiian Islands

Governor David Ige on Tuesday evening signed an emergency declaration for the entire state as heavy rains resulted in flooding and landslides. There were also fears of dam failure, prompting evacuations in Haʻikū on Maui on Monday and Haleʻiwa on Oʻahu on Tuesday.

Motorists are advised of a road closure that begins today on Kaupakalua Road due to construction work on a bridge in the area.
