Mayor Richard Bissen is bringing Holomua Kākou back to East Maui next Wednesday and Thursday, as part of his continuing efforts to take county government to the rural areas of Maui County.

Speed bump installation on Keawa Place in Hāna

Crews with the state Department of Transportation will be installing two speed on Keawa Place, between Hāna Highway (Route 360) and Uakea Road in Hāna next week. The work will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 16 and may continue on Tuesday, Sept. 17, if additional time is needed.

Two speed bumps will be installed on Keawa Place, between Hāna Highway (Route 360) and Uakea Road, in Hāna town, to address the community’s concerns of speeding in the area.

Change of zoning recommended for one of oldest buildings in Hāna town

Maui County Council Housing and Land Use Committee members unanimously recommended approval Wednesday of a bill to rezone the former Old Laundry Building in Hāna town. Bill 69 would re-establish commercial use for the 21,711-square-foot property, possibly as an art or culturally appropriate music studio.

Uakea Road Now Open Following Hana Storm

Uakea Road in East Maui is now open following a severe storm in March that washed out the rural road on the approach to Hana Town.

Uakea Road and Honoapiilani Included in $37.5M Improvements Fund

The funds include $2 million for improvements to the Hana Highway between Uakea Road and Keawa Place that was damaged in the March 2012 storm.
