The Fourth Annual Kraig M.K. Vickers Honor Run is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 2, at Kanaha Beach Park on Maui’s North Shore in Kahului. This event includes a 5K run and a 3K run/walk to accommodate participants of all ages.

The run honors Maui’s Kraig MK Vickers, an EOD member of the US Navy’s Special Warfare Development group, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on Aug. 6 of 2011, during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Proceeds will go to The Kraig Vickers Foundation, whose aim is to assist local military service members and their ‘ohana in times of hardship as well as to promote a more active and healthy lifestyle throughout the community.

The remains of a Maui service member killed in Afghanistan return to Maui today. Kraig Vickers, 36, was among 30 service members killed on August 6 when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed in the Wardak province.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, Castle Theater. Visitation is from 8 to 10 a.m. Services begin at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku.
