Lahaina Homecoming, in partnership with Hawaiian Airlines, announced the launch of the “E Hoʻi Mai” Competition, an initiative dedicated to bringing members of the Lahaina diaspora back home for a special weekend of healing, reconnection and collective visioning on July 17–19, 2026. 

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education marked the opening of its Lahaina educator workforce housing development, a $20 million project designed to support teacher retention and strengthen public education on Maui.

A Hawaiʻi woman was sentenced to four months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, following her guilty plea to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The charge stems from allegations of stealing disaster relief funds, intended for Lahaina and Pacific Palisades fire victims.

Work on the County of Maui’s pre-fire Front Street Improvements Project will continue with updates to features of the historical roadway between the intersections of Baker to Pāpalaua streets and Lahainaluna Road to Dickenson Street. The stretch of Front Street from Lahainaluna Road to Papelekane Street remains closed.

The Hawai‘i Wildfire Management Organization has been recognized by the National Association of State Foresters as a leader in wildfire mitigation.

The pin, named after the Hawaiian phrase “Mālama Maui,” signifying “Caring for Maui,” hopes to offer solace to residents while providing guidance for visitors. Its fundamental purpose is to establish a supportive environment for residents by offering a visual cue to visitors, signifying the importance of refraining from inquiring about the experiences of Maui residents, thus respecting their privacy.
