#lanai diver killed

A Maui man entered a not-guilty plea today in 2nd Circuit Court to felony charges stemming from the July 31, 2011 death of a diver off Lanai.

Maui police say a Lahaina man who was struck by a boat while snorkeling in waters off of West Maui has since died of his injuries. The resolution comes in direct response to a July 31st incident outside of the Kamalapau breakwater on Lanai, in which a diver was fatally hit by a commercial Zodiac boat.

Maui police have identified the diver killed in a boating accident off of Lanai as Alan Amoncio, 51, of Lanai City. Amoncio was reportedly free diving with his wife at around 10:35 a.m, on Sunday, when he was struck by a tour boat just outside of the break wall at Kaumalapau Harbor.
