The deadline for eligible organizations in Hawaiʻi, Kauaʻi and Maui Counties to submit Requests for Public Assistance for the FEMA PA Grant Program is Oct. 27, 2018.

The Hawaiʻi Congressional Delegation urged the US Department of Agriculture to utilize its existing authority to provide direct assistance to Hawaiʻi farmers affected by recent natural disasters.

An informational outreach event will be held for farmers impacted by the recent series of wild fires in West Maui due to Lane and the flooding incurred by Olivia.

“Lingering deep tropical moisture associated with Lane will keep island weather cloudy and wet today,” according to the National Weather Service, which had issued a Flood Watch for the state in effect through this afternoon.

On Maui, the greatest rainfall totals were at West Wailuaiki (between Keʻanae and Nāhiku) in East Maui where more than 24 inches fell over four days, followed by Puʻu Kukui  (Mauna Kahalawai) in the West Maui Mountains where nearly 15 inches were reported over the same period.

County and state departments continue to assess storm damage impacts and have updated information on when some services will resume.

The tree blocked the road for several hours as a six-man Maui County road crew worked with a bulldozer and chainsaws to remove it during relentless rainfall.

All Maui County departments are reviewing operations this morning in order to determine which services can resume and when.

The Tropical Storm Warning has been discontinued for Oʻahu and Maui County; and the Tropical Storm Watch has been discontinued for Kauaʻi County.

On Maui, after staff assessments, all parks except for Waiʻānapanapa State Park are expected to reopen in the morning. Waiʻānapanapa is not accessible currently off the Hāna Highway which was severely impacted by the storm.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is continuing to respond to damages caused by heavy rains on Hawaiʻi Island, storm impacts and fire response on Maui, the beginning of storm effect on Oʻahu and continues preparing on Kauaʻi.

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is working with Maui County officials in response to brush fires that broke out Friday in West Maui.

As of Thursday night, there were a total of 1,526 people across 36 shelters statewide

Weather impacts from Hurricane Lane could be felt into the weekend as the Category 3 system forges a slow advance up the island chain.

This advisory is preemptive for some areas, however it is anticipated that most coastal waters will be affected by stormwater runoff.

Hurricane Lane is still heading for Maui County as a category 3 hurricane with 120 mile per hour winds. A Hurricane Warning, Flash Flood Watch and High Surf Warning for all south facing shores is still in effect countywide.
