Maui has a new state representative and two new council members following yesterday’s 2012 general election.

The workshop will run from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday October 18th at the MEO Family Center in Wailuku.

“Aloha. I’m Joe Blackburn. I’m running for the Maui County Council. I was born and raised in Hawai’i. I attended Maryknoll High School. After high school, I went to college in California. I got a bachelor’s degree in business administration and returned home.”

“My name is Edward Kaahui. I’m also called Eddie. I’m running for the 10th (House) District, which encompasses Lahaina and North Kihei.”

“Aloha mai kakou. My name is Esther Kia’aina from Nanakuli, O’ahu. I am seeking the democratic nomination for Hawaii’s Second Congressional District. My campaign is about ensuring and improving the quality of life of all people.”

“Aloha mai. My name is Manuwai Peters and I am running for the Maui County Council Molokai seat. My father was born and raised in Wailuku, Maui; and my mother was born in Kalamaula, Molokai.”

Walk-in Absentee voting for the upcoming Primary Election will begin on Monday, July 30, and continue through Thursday, August 9, 2012.

“Aloha. I’m Senator J. Kalani English, representing the 7th District Hana, East and Upcountry Maui, Molokai, Lana’i, and Kaho’olawe. I’m running for my fifth term in the state Senate.”

“We currently have a situation wherein, religious groups, schools, hospitals, will be required to provide insurance that provides pills that could cause abortions even if its against the religion of those groups. This is an affront to religious liberties.”

“Aloha. My name is Gladys Coelho Baisa seeking reelection to the Upcountry seat on the Maui County Council. I am often called the “voice of reason and common sense” on the council. Maui is my home and I have no plans to move.”

Maui County Council candidate for Kahului, Don Guzman announced that he will host a West Maui Talk Story on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center Social Hall.

“Aloha. I’m Representative Gil Keith-Agaran, and I’m running for re-election to the Central Maui House seat. I’ve been your representative now for four years, since 2009. I’ve served on all three of the major committees in the House.”

The Office of Elections issued a reminder to individuals who want to run for office, that the candidate filing deadline for the 2012 election cycle is Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 4:30 p.m.

Maui County Council candidate for Kahului, Don Guzman announced that he will be having his Maui Campaign Rally on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.

State Senate candidate, Barbara Haliniak, will host a campaign event on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hana Bay Pavilion in East Maui.

Councilmember Mike White today filed nomination papers for re-election to Maui County Council’s Makawao, Ha‘ikū and Pā‘ia residency seat. As of May 17, no other candidates were listed as potential contenders for the Makawao, Ha‘ikū and Pā‘ia residency seat.
