Hawaiian Electric begins restoration work in Lahaina at request of Maui Emergency Operations Center
The County of Maui through its Emergency Operations Center and Maui Emergency Management Agency has requested this utility work to begin in the upcoming weeks to restore county wastewater pumps that service the area. The work also enables the interim rebuilding of two backup circuits that can reroute power to customers and neighborhoods in the Puamana, Launiupoko to Olowalu area, and mauka of the Lahaina Bypass.

The NWS says the “peak period of concern” at this time is approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday with the “greatest potential for higher end rain rates occurring after midnight Tuesday night.” As of 5 p.m., the system was located about 655 miles ESE of Hilo Hawaiʻi; 730 miles ESE of Hāna, Maui; 760 miles ESE of Kahului, Maui; 800 miles ESE of Kaunakakai, Molokaʻi; 790 miles ESE of Lānaʻi City; and 855 miles ESE of Honolulu, Oʻahu.

Maui County Update: 215 People Seek Shelter
East Molokaʻi residents are urged to seek shelter now before flooding prevents them from traveling to the evacuation shelter at Molokaʻi High School. There were 215 people in evacuation shelters county wide as of last night’s count by the Maui Police Department.
