Local tenants and landlords are invited to attend a Renterʻs Rights Training on Sunday, July 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. This free, community-centered event will provide residents with vital information about housing rights, strategies for addressing housing issues and resources for navigating landlord-tenant challenges.

To help both renters and landlords navigate these challenges, Maui Housing Hui is hosting a free Renter’s Rights Training on March 24, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku.

The ‘Ohana Assistance Pilot Project launched on Monday to provide grants of up to $100,000 to Maui County homeowners toward the cost of design and construction of attached or detached ʻohana units.

Following Gov. Josh Green’s signing of the 11th emergency proclamation relating to wildfires, signed into law on May 3, 2024, a landlord who wishes to terminate a lease before its effective date can only do so for two reasons, and must submit a signed affidavit to the County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Concerns, Housing Division.

The purpose of the rent and eviction restrictions in the Emergency Proclamation is to address the unprecedented humanitarian crisis caused by the August wildfires. “If you believe that a landlord on Maui is acting illegally under the Emergency Proclamation, report what you know to the Department of the Attorney General,” department officials said.
