Lānaʻi shelter opened, Hāna shelter to be opened today as kona storm intensifies

In coordination with the Maui Emergency Management Agency and County of Maui Department of Human Concerns, the American Red Cross opened a shelter on Lānaʻi shortly before 1 p.m. today at Lānai High & Elementary School Gym. Another shelter is scheduled to open at 4:30 p.m. today at the Hāna High School cafeteria.

Hawaiian Telcom called in 40 employees from other islands to help with restoration

Hawaiian Telcom, with the help of 40 employees from neighbor islands, have restored connectivity this week to the company’s central offices in Lahaina and Nāpili — and restored service to more than 11,000 customers in West Maui.

Non-Essential County Offices Closed Wednesday, Maui Shelters to Open at 6 p.m. Tonight

Effective at 6 p.m. tonight, emergency shelters will open at several locations in Maui County. All non-essential county offices will be closed on Wednesday.

45 People Remained at Maui Shelters Overnight

As of midnight on Monday, there were 22 people seeking shelter at War Memorial Gym, 11 at Kamaliʻi Elementary; 8 at the Lahaina Civic Center, and 4 at Hāna High School, said officials with the Hawaiʻi Red Cross.
