After a combined 8 hours of testimony and deliberations on Monday, the Maui County Council reached a unanimous decision on committee organization and membership

“Neighbor island residents have to fly to Oahu on short notice and at their own expense if they want to testify before the legislature in person. For many people, that isn’t possible, and the result is that we don’t hear from them.

Maui lawmakers are encouraged by a new pilot program that offers neighbor island constituents the ability to testify without having to physically travel to Oahu where many legislative hearings are held.

Residents of Hana, Lanai and Molokai will soon have the opportunity to testify at County Council meetings without having to travel to Wailuku to attend in person.
