High School Regatta Season-Opener Relocated to Kīhei
Saturday’s Maui Interscholastic League’s season-opener canoe regatta to be relocated from Kahului Harbor to Ka Lae Pōhaku in Kīhei.
UPDATE: MIL Regatta Moved to Kahului
The MIL Championship canoe regatta is being moved from Ka Lae Pōhaku beach park in South Maui to the Kahului Harbor due to “unfavorable and potentially unsafe conditions,” contest organizers said.

More than 40 canoes formed a circle around a double-hulled canoe carrying family members of Gonzales today. While on the water, paddlers prayed together and sang Hawaii Aloha. Flowers were also dropped from a helicopter in his memory.
Gonzales Memorial Services Set, MIL Regatta Relocated in his Honor
The Maui Interscholastic League regatta planned for Saturday, January 7, 2012, has been relocated from Kihei to Lahaina in honor of the late William Kalanikai Gonzales. Gonzales was fatally injured on Thursday, December 29, by a recreational motor boat while preparing regatta lanes in Lahaina.
