After a day of deliberations, a guilty verdict has been reached in the second degree murder trial of Bernard Brown. The verdict was reached at 2:01 p.m. and was unanimous.

Defense attorney Randall Hironaka called the prosecution’s case a “witch-hunt.” Meantime, Deputy Prosecutor Jerry W. Hupp argued that “odd” activity, statements, “mistakes,” and “diversions” by Brown, point towards guilt.

Alexis Felicilda, Monsalve’s daughter, described the process she went through in reporting her mom missing. Monsalve’s close friends Heather James and Matthew Wilkins discussed how they traveled from the mainland to conduct exhaustive searches, which they say Brown did not attend. And coworker, Stacie Williams, offered to help Monsalve when she broke up with Brown by giving her a place to stay.

On Tuesday, the jury listened to an interview a Maui police detective conducted with Brown following Monsalve’s disappearance in which Brown denied any involvement. In the interview he was recorded saying, “I swear she was fine… I did not hurt her.” He also said, “I hope you find her,” and suggested that perhaps she was out “partying.”

The trial for murder defendant Bernard Brown, the man accused of killing Moreira “Mo” Monsalve, is scheduled to start on Thursday. In October, Brown pleaded not guilty to second degree murder.  

Steven Capobianco’s request for a new trial has been delayed until March.

A Maui Police Detective offered testimony describing a police sweep of Nuaailua where he discovered a jawbone fragment, body piercing and fingernails.

Knight testified that he helped Capobianco find parts for his vehicle, but never drove him to work, as the defendant had claimed in a previous police interview.

Testimony will be allowed relating to a witness account about a suicide threat by Steven Capobianco, who is standing trial for the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend Carly “Charli” Scott.

Taylor Farner, Capobianco’s ex-girlfriend testified that she dated the defendant for a two-to-three month period in 2013, prior to Charli Scott’s disappearance.

Day 18 included a full day of testimony from Brooke Scott, the oldest sister of Carly “Charli” Scott, who answered questions about the events that led up to her sister’s disappearance and the search that followed.

Young said he noticed the dog run out from under a vendor table every time a truck would pull up, and then run back. “I felt like he was lost,” he said.

During testimony, Kimberlyn Scott described the events leading up to Charli’s disappearance, her daughter’s relationship with the defendant, as well as the tension that loomed as she questioned Capobianco about the last time her daughter was seen alive.

Witness, Max Jones offered his testimony on Wednesday about a gruesome discovery at Nuaʻailua Bay, where he had gone with two others on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, to search for Carly “Charli” Scott.

When asked if there were any words of affection Steven Capobianco used in relation to Charli Scott, Wais responded with a one-word answer, “None.”

Judge Joseph Cardoza said he was satisfied that the statement relating to a polygraph test was given voluntarily by the defendant and said there was no need for a warning of Miranda Rights.

The murder trail for Steven Capobianco got underway today following opening statements from both the prosecution and defense telling very different stories of evidence that they plan to present to jurors.

A judge ruled today on motions relating to the upcoming trial of Stephen Capobianco, a man accused of murdering his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Charli Scott.

The trial for Steven Capobianco was scheduled to commence on March 14, but has been continued to May 23, 2016 following a request for continuance from defense attorneys today.
