Mayor Richard Bissen signed into law Friday morning an approximately $1.61 billion fiscal year 2027 budget, officially closing a public and Maui County Council review process that began March 25.

Maui County’s Department of Public Works has published a final environmental assessment and a finding of no significant environmental impact for an $80 million project to extend Līloa Drive by 4,900 feet.

Public comments are due Aug. 22 for Maui County’s draft environmental assessment of its planned 4,900-foot extension of Līloa Drive, also known as the North-South Collector Road, from East Waipu‘ilani Road to Ka‘ono‘ulu Street in Kīhei.

Four Maui County incumbents uncontested for re-election

By virtue of being uncontested, Maui County Council Members Shane Sinenci of East Maui and Gabe Johnson of Lāna‘i will be re-elected to their respective seats this year. Central Maui Sen. Troy Hashimoto is also uncontested for his 5th District Senate seat, and District 9 Rep. Justin Woodson has no opponent to stand in the way of his return to the state House of Representatives.
