Haʻikū’s Nora Liotta has a chance to reach another milestone in her young surfing career this week as she aims to defend her title in the World Surf League’s Hawaiian Islands Sunset Pro.

This Earth Month, to celebrate their favorite sustainable mode of transportation, the Maui Bicycling League has organized a 17-mile “Haʻikū Ride Around” on Saturday, April 27.

“We allege that none of the permit holders at Paumalu have complied with all the conditions of their permits. Their permits have expired, and the sandbag structures have become de facto seawalls that are putting the future of the beach at risk,” said Michael Cain administrator of the DLNR Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands.

The Pūpūkea Marine Life Conservation District on O‘ahu’s North Shore has expanded to include the Kapo‘o tide pools, also known as the Old Quarry tide pools.

Last weekends gigantic WNW did not quite materialize here on Maui due to some outer island blockage. This is the curse of having these other islands surrounding Maui, they block a lot of the energy from south and west swells.

More great swells on the way for the north shores of Hawaii. Meanwhile, for the price of a short flight, Mauians can find themselves on Oahu’s north shore, the holy grail of surfing.
