HECO 9 a.m. update: Power restoration continues on Oʻahu’s North Shore; pocket outages in Hāna, Maui

Hawaiian Electric crews continue to assess circuits that were proactively turned off Friday due to catastrophic flooding in the North Shore area of Oʻahu. On Maui, about 100 customers are without power. Two crews are working in Hāna to address storm-related pocket outages.

HECO 12 p.m. update: 111,000 still without power on Oʻahu, Maui County and Hawaiʻi Island

About 10,000 customers remain out in various areas as crews restored half of affected customers in parts of South and Upcountry Maui this morning. Crews rerouted service to about 4,000 South Maui customers who lost power due to a large sinkhole along S. Kīhei Road around 4:50 a.m. today.

HECO 9 p.m. update: 1,300 customers on Maui to remain without power overnight

In Upcountry Maui, about 1,300 customers will remain without power overnight as island-wide gusts exceed 30 mph. In Kaluako‘i, Moloka‘i, crews are working to repair a damaged utility pole in a remote area before power is estimated to be restored early tomorrow morning.

LAWMAKERS TO DISCUSS CAUSE OF OAHU POWER OUTAGE

Lawmakers will discuss the cause of Oahu’s islandwide power outage that knocked out power on the day after Christmas to more than 282,000 customers.  The Senate Committee on Energy and the Environment will meet on January 14th for an informational briefing to go over reasons behind the extended outage and plans to prevent future incidents.
