In the program’s first year of operation, from May 2013 to April 2014, officers initiated 60 investigations, compared to 17 in the same period from the previous year, according to state officials.

In it’s first full year of operation, Fisheries officials with the Department of Land and Natural Resources say the team has recorded an increase in compliance and more citations. The action has led to the beginning of recovery for an “over fished and over stressed area of the island.”
