At this year’s Maui Fair, Maui Solar Project launched a contest to find young artists in the community with a passion for renewable energy. Over the course of four days, over 500 entries were submitted for a chance to win an iPad Air 2.

The Hawaiian Electric Companies proposed a Community-Based Renewable Energy program and tariff to the Hawai‘i Public Utilities Commission on Oct. 1 that would allow customers who cannot or will not take advantage of solar power to receive the benefits of renewable energy to help offset their monthly electric bills and support clean energy for the state.

The system is expected to generate 63,495 kWh in its first year of production and save the Boy Scouts Maui chapter $425,000 over 20 years.

Read Lighting Inc. of Maui has gone green with a high-efficiency rooftop photovoltaic system to fuel its power needs with clean, renewable energy.

The threshold for small systems, those of 10 kilowatts or less, has been raised to 100% of the daytime minimum load (“DML”) for circuits.

Construction will run from October 8 to December 12, 2012, and will utilize the mauka side of the upper parking lot.
