The Maui Police Department arrested three more teens in connection with the ongoing investigation into the assault and riot that occurred on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the pool area of Kāʻanapali Aliʻi, located at 50 Nohea Kai Drive in Lahaina. This brings to seven the total arrests made to date in connection with the case.

Maui police said they arrested an individual this week in connection to multiple home break-ins but provided few details, including the name of the suspect.

The women were extricated from deep within the tangled debris of the downed banyan tree, which fell the afternoon of July 12 on Kilauea Avenue, with preliminary observations indicating they were likely struck by falling tree limbs; police do not suspect foul play at this time and autopises will be conducted later this week to determine their exact cause of death.

In an effort to recruit and retain police officers, Senate President Ronald Kouchi is proposing a measure to establish a deferred retirement option program.

The reported theft and killing of “Eddie,” a well-fed and cared for pet pig, remains under investigation by Maui police, although the matter has been handed over to the Maui County Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.
