Power Restored to 930 in Wailea After Tree Trimming Incident

Maui Electric has restored power to all customers in Wailea following a tree trimming incident where a branch dropped on overhead lines along S Kīhei Rd.

UPDATE: Electrical Arc at Maui Electric Substation Sparks 7-Acre Wailea Fire

The seven acre fire started after an electrical arc on a Maui Electric Company transmission line dropped a shower of sparks, igniting the dry grass below it.

Cause of Wailea Outage Attributed to Contamination

“Something came in contact with the line which caused the short resulting in the outage. It is unclear as to what may have contacted the line,” said MECO spokesperson Kauʻi Awai-Dickson.

Power Restored to 15,000 in Kīhei and Wailea
