Molokaʻi residents are asked to weigh in on the creation of a Maui County wetlands map during a public meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at the Mitchell Pauole Community Center conference room in Kaunakakai.

The range of potential alternatives includes no air tours over the park in the ATMP planning area, reducing the number of flights, limiting flight routes over sensitive areas, and prohibiting flights on specific days of the week. On average, there are 4,824 flights over Haleakalā National Park per year.   

A series of Kalaupapa family workshops begins this week to help people find information about ancestors that were forcibly relocated to the remote Molokai community.  There were an estimated 8,000 individuals who were sent to the Kalaupapa Peninsula between 1866 and 1969 because of government policies regarding Hansens disease.
