Hawai‘i schools serve up locally sourced ‘volcano bowls’ for Farm-to-School Month
This October, Hawaiʻi public school cafeterias statewide were invited to serve “bussin’ volcano bowls” — a playful take on a taco salad — for lunch, featuring locally sourced beef, lettuce and tomatoes where available. More than 4,300 pounds of local ground beef, 6,300 pounds of local green lettuce and 4,400 pounds of local tomatoes were distributed to 95 participating schools.
Hirono announces Class of 2029 nominees to United States Service Academies
Thirty-nine Hawaii students have earned nominations to US military service academies for the Class of 2029, announced US Sen. Mazie K. Hirono on Friday. The nominees will advance for consideration by each academy’s director of admissions.
Sterling Higa elected chair of Hawai‘i Community Development Authority
The Hawai‘i Community Development Authority members unanimously voted Sterling Higa as chair. Higa has been serving on the board since 2022.
HTA Appoints Dylan Ching, Keith “Keone” Downing and Sigmund “Sig” Zane to Serve on its Board of Directors
The Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority appointed three individuals – Dylan Ching, Keith “Keone” Downing and Sigmund “Sig” Zane – to serve on its board of directors. The appointees were nominated by Gov. David Ige and confirmed by the Hawaiʻi State Senate with their terms effective immediately.
Flags Lowered in Memory of First ʻAiea State Legislator William Bains-Jordan, March 16
Governor David Ige has ordered the flag of the United States and the Hawai‘i state flag to be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, March 16 as a mark of respect for William Bains-Jordan, the first state representative of ʻAiea. The US and state flags will be flown at half-staff at all state offices and agencies, as well as the Hawai‘i National Guard from sunrise to sunset
