New lanes to open on Puʻunēnē Avenue
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation notifies highway users that the newly added single lanes in both directions on Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) between West and East Wākea Avenues and Kuihelani Highway (Route 380) will open at 7 a.m., Thursday, April 16.
Puʻunēnē Avenue to close for night paving work
Road users are advised that Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) will be closed overnight Dec. 8-12 for work between Papa Avenue and Kūihelani Highway (Route 380).
Geotechnical work to be conducted on and along roadways in Central Maui, March 10-14
The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies highway users of potential traffic delays from March 10-14 as crews will be drilling for soil samples in and along state highways, which will assist the department in maintaining and improving its roadways.
Puʻunēnē Ave. improvements subject of public meeting, Oct. 10
The project, to widen Puʻunēnē Ave. from two to four lanes between Wākea Ave. and Kūihelani Highway, is expected to begin in January 2025. Multimodal and safety improvements planned as part of this project include: a contiguous paved shoulder, new sidewalks on both sides of Puʻunēnē Ave., a landscaped median between Puʻukani St. and Mayor Elmer F. Cravalho Way, two noise walls, enhanced street lighting, new signage and updated drainage and storm water management. Construction of these improvements is expected to run through Spring 2026.
