Produced by Maui Public Art Corps in collaboration with the County of Maui and kumu hula Sissy Lake-Farm of Hālau Makana Aloha O Ka Lauaʻe, the piece is one of three large-scale murals being unveiled in June through the Hui Mo‘olelo program, which pairs professional artists with community members to create place-based public art.

A 2,000-foot mural of a plumeria lei can now be seen encircling the Hawai‘i State Capitol building on O‘ahu. The unveiling of the “He Lei Ho‘okipa” took place on Tuesday, to welcome and honor participants of the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FestPAC). The mural serves as a visual message of aloha, extending a warm welcome to the 27 Pacific nation delegations of FestPAC.

As April marks National Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Hoʻoikaika Partnership is excited to host the 4th annual ‘Ohana Fest “Journey to Make Pono” on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. This event is designed for families who are eligible for services offered by partner agencies. The event includes activities, community resources, music and giveaways.
