The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center (NVMC) presents its upcoming exhibit, “The Nisei Experience in WWII,” curated by Shari Tamashiro, Cybrarian at UH Kapiʻolani Community College. This exhibition offers an in-depth exploration of the Nisei experience, from the years preceding the bombing of Pearl Harbor through the post-war era, shedding light on the resilience, sacrifice, and patriotism of second-generation Japanese Americans.

The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center will host a free screening of the award-winning animated film “In This Corner of the World” on Saturday, June 14, as part of its Monthly Movie Matinee series.

The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center will show famed animator Makoto Shinkai’s “Children Who Chase Lost Voices” on Saturday, June 8, and “Your Name” on Saturday, June 15.

“Paper Chase,” a documentary film that delves into the history of Japanese-American news media, will be screened on Sunday, Aug. 13, at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center. Free showings are scheduled for 11 a.m. and at 2 p.m. at the center located at 665 Kahului Beach Road.

The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center hosts a book signing and lecture with Dr. Gail Okawa on Saturday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stanley Izumigawa Resource Center on the NVMC campus. 

A blessing and grand opening event was held over the weekend for the newly constructed Stanley Izumigawa Resource Center at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center in Wailuku, Maui. The new SIRC will allow the center to double its space for visitors, workshops and research requests.
