Kapalua Golf owner and President of TY Management,  Mr. Tadashi Yanai, recently donated $500,000 to the nonprofit Aloha Puʻu Kukui, a major commitment to continuing the restoration work of the West Maui Puʻu Kukui Watershed Preserve —a critical resource for the island’s environmental health. This latest gift brings the total contribution to Puʻu Kukui Watershed to $1.5 million since 2024. These funds directly support essential on-the-ground efforts, including invasive species removal and the reforestation of native species across the preserve. 

Community members see the golf course’s plan as a way to “throw money at the problem” as disputes over water use continue.

The environmental law firm claims the golf courses unlawfully used millions of gallons of potable water to irrigate their greens, and that the state water commission chair knew about it.

The state water commission is trying to decide who should get permits to use water in West Maui, with 93 existing use permits and 48 new applications under review.

Severe water restrictions in West Maui have led to the Plantation at Kapalua golf course that hosts the PGA Tourʻs The Sentry tournament of champions becoming so brown that the owner said it may soon have to close.

TY Management Corporation welcomes the opening of Kapalua Village, the first privately funded temporary housing community for Kapalua golf course and other Kapalua-based employees who were impacted by the devastating Lahaina, Maui wildfires. The opening of Kapalua Village coincides with the one-year remembrance of the wildfires and the first group of families is scheduled to move in this month.

TY Management Corporation held a groundbreaking and blessing ceremony of its Kapalua Village Temporary Housing Project for Kapalua Golf employees on Monday morning, Feb. 19. This project signifies one of the first privately funded temporary housing projects on Maui to assist individuals and families impacted by the Maui wildfires.
