Wildfire impacts result in unavailable vacation rental units on Maui in September 2023
Many vacation rental units continued to be unavailable in West Maui in September due to the Maui wildfires that occurred in Lahaina on Aug. 8, 2023.
HTA: Unit Demand for Maui County Vacation Rentals Decreased 96.2% in September
According to the report, unit demand was 8,200 unit nights (-96.2%), resulting in 5.4 percent occupancy (-68.8 percentage points) with an ADR of $236 (-34.0%). Maui County hotels were 16.5 percent occupied with an ADR of $149.

The Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority report showed Maui County with 123,100 available unit nights in August, which is a decrease of 57.9% compared to a year ago, the largest vacation rental supply in all four counties; unit demand also decreased 94.7% with 12,100 unit nights, resulting in 9.8% occupancy with an ADR of $229.
