Fallow Cane, Brush & Trash Burned in Haʻikū Fire

Pāʻia firefighters arrived at 5:49 p.m. to find about 3 acres of brush and fallow sugar cane burning on Hahana Road, about a half-mile makai of the Hāna Hwy.

Brush Fire Near “Jaws” Likely Started in Pile of Trash

The cause of the fire was undetermined, but fire officials say the fire appeared to have started in piles of household trash dumped in the area, which then extended into the brush.
