#vehicle over cliff

Maui police are responding to a report of a vehicle over a cliff in West Maui along the Honoapiʻilani Highway near DT Fleming Beach.  At around 11:26 a.m., the highway was temporarily closed in both directions at the location.  Maui Now has received police confirmation that the accident involves a fatality. *This is a developing story. Check back for updates, which will be posted as they become available. 

Emergency crews responded and recovered a white 2013 GMC pick-up from the bottom of the cliff, which was partially submerged in the water. A male driver was found inside the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.

Two females were found in the vehicle. One was deceased and the other was in critical condition.

Maui Now received reports of a vehicle that went over the cliff near Mile 30-31 into the river mouth.

Motorists traveling to or from Lahaina are advised of heavy traffic due in part to a report of a vehicle over the cliff along the rocky shoreline near McGregor Point. Emergency crews are on scene.
