Update: 500+ customers lose power after truck snags utility lines in Kahului
Update: All the remaining Kahului customers were restored around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, after crews completed repairs to downed utility lines and a broken utility pole. The damages were the result of a traffic accident in which a semi-truck carrying a garbage truck, snagged and pulled down cable and power lines and broke a utility pole on Lono Ave. near W. Kauaʻi St.
Metallic Balloon Downs Power Lines in Kahului, Knocks Out Power
Monday’s power outage in Kahului is being attributed to a metallic balloon that came in to contact with power lines. Representatives at Maui Electric Company say the contact caused electric lines to come down and knocked out power to nearby customers at approximately 1:40 p.m.

Maui fire and police crews are responding to a report of downed guy-wires on West Kauaʻi Street in Kahului between Lono and Puʻunēnē Avenues.
KAHULUI STABBING VICTIM IDENTIFIED
