Police say witnesses reported the Maui employee who died in the incident was able to hang on to a zipliner for a few minutes, but lost her grip and fell into the gulch below. Authorities say the employee was not secured to the landing platform with any type of safety harness.

Officials with the Piʻiholo Ranch Zipline have since expressed their condolences and identified the woman as an employee, Patricia “Trish” Rabellizsa.

A 25-year-old man was transported to the hospital on New Year’s Eve after falling 45-feet from a zip line in West Maui.

Authorities say the 60-year old man from Nebraska was stuck on the line, and was injured when he was hit by an employee attempting to assist him.
