Hawaiian Electric Industries Donates $100,000 For Tsunami Relief

The American Red Cross and the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) are the receipients of $100,000 contributed by Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (HEI) along with its subsidiaries American Savings Bank, Hawaiian Electric Company, Hawaii Electric Light Company and Maui Electric Company to support recovery efforts from the Japan earthquake and tsunami aftermath.

In particular, American Savings Bank contributed $50,000 and has designated JASH as the beneficiary. This effort was part of the statewide “Aloha for Japan” relief drive that provide ssupport for the victims and families in Japan affected by the recent tragic earthquake and tsunami. 

According to their website, the American Red Cross (ARC) invests an average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends in humanitarian services and programs. Donations to ARC support the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund.

JASH is a Hawaii-based non-profit organization with a mission of “promoting understanding and friendships between the peoples of Japan and the United States through the special and unique perspective of Hawaii.” JASH donations will go directly to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
