On a hot day, there’s a myriad of dessert options open to anyone to ease the heat. You can choose ice creams or shave ice, or how about a combination of the two? At Bistro Manila Maui, a menu item called Halo Halo might be just what you’re looking for.

It’s colorful, extremely textural, and very sweet. The Bistro’s Halo Halo is a Filipino dessert made with savory and sweet things such avocado, sweet potato, tapioca, young coconut, melon, and sugar palm fruit (kaong).

The creamy strips of young coconut, heart of palm, tapioca balls, and melon add chewy texture to the crunch of cold rough shaved ice. It is topped with your choice of mango, coconut (macapuno) or yam (ube) ice cream. Evaporated milk is poured over the entire conglomeration of tastes and textures. A crisp pirouette cookie and little slice of leche flan, tops the entire dessert off.
