Community to Discuss Kihei Outlet Mall Proposal
By Wendy Osher
The proposed Pi’ilani Promenade/Outlet Mall will be the focus of an upcoming public meeting hosted by the Kihei Community Association.
According to the KCA website, the group had invited representatives of the developer, Eclipse Development Group, as well as a spokesperson from prior land owner, Kaonoulu Ranch, but had no confirmation from either at last report.
Individuals that have confirmed attendance include: Mark Hyde, of South Maui Citizens for Responsible Growth; former county planning director Mike Foley; and Maui Water Board past president, Michael Howden.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, with doors opening at 6 p.m. at the Kihei Charter School, located at 41 East Lipoa.
The project has drawn mixed reaction ranging from those who support the project claiming economic benefits, to those who oppose the project claiming negative impacts ranging from sprawl to increased traffic.
The KCA encourages those planning to attend the meeting to bring non perishable food donations for the association’s ongoing Maui Food Bank drive.
