Power Outage Affects 6,530 Maui Customers

An estimated 6,530 customers lost power in areas stretching from Haʻikū to Hāna on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2015.
Company spokesperson Kauʻi Awai-Dickson said the outage occurred at 2:25 p.m. when a Pukalani circuit breaker relayed open.
According to Awai-Dickson, an estimated 5,060 customers had power restored by 3:16 p.m., and full power was restored to remaining customers by 4:49 p.m.
The cause of the outage remains under investigation.
Company representatives apologized for the inconvenience and thanked those affected for the their patience and understanding.
(UPDATE: 3:53 p.m. 2/24/15) Maui Electric has restored partial power to a majority of customers as of 3:16 p.m.
(Original Post: 2:40 p.m. 2/24/15) Electric customers in the area from Haʻikū to Hāna are advised of a power outage. Crews from Maui Electric Company are currently working to identify the cause and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
