Structural damage forced the closure today of the Haleakalā Headquarters Visitor Center, located at the 7,000 foot elevation of Haleakalā National Park.
Park officials say the closure is due to a cracked beam in the ceiling of the facility.
The headquarters building is located above Hosmer Grove and below the Halemauʻu Trail Head and Leleiwi Overlook.
Park spokesperson, Polly Angelakis said the building will be closed until further notice while the damage is assessed and repaired. There is currently no estimate as to when it will reopen, but restrooms which are not near the damage will remain open during the assessment period.
